Illegal Gambling

Approximately 10% (around 800,000 individuals) participated in gambling within 2024 in unlicensed environments. 72% of players who participated in unlicensed environments also gamble in the legal market, while 28% participate exclusively in the illegal network.

Gaming Statistics

Gambling activities conducted through the land-based distribution channel represent 49.9% of total GGR. Online (remote) gambling accounts for 37.1% of total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR), while casinos account for 8.8%. Hellenic Lotteries and horse racing activities collectively represent 4.3% of total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR).

Player Profile

Overall, more than one in every two Greeks (59.91%) state that they played a game of chance during 2024. Gambling participation is higher among men (71.07%) than among women (28.93%). In terms of age, the largest percentage of players (28.4%) falls within the 35–49 age group, while participation among those aged 50–64 is also significant at 27.32%. The highest proportion of players is found among individuals with a high school diploma (33.69%), although a substantial share also holds a university degree (28.70%).

Time

Regarding the time spent by gambling participants, it appears that the overwhelming majority of players report engaging in gambling for up to 30 minutes per day, mainly choosing online games and KINO.
