The HGC has the following basic responsibilities:

Regulating the gambling market with recommendations to the Minister of Finance and issuing regulatory decisions.

Supervising and controlling the conduct of the games, ensuring legality, transparency and integrity.

Licensing and maintaining registers of gaming providers and activities.

Controlling the performance of public revenues resulting from the gambling market.

• Protecting players and society as a whole, with particular attention to minors and vulnerable groups.

Implementing responsible gaming measures, such as activity limits, self-exclusion and information actions.

Combating illegal gambling, through controls, sanctions and cooperation with competent bodies.

Monitoring compliance with the regulatory framework and licensing conditions.

Controlling commercial communication of games, so that the relevant rules are respected.

Contributing to the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing in the gaming sector.

Issuing instructions and guidelines for the implementation of the legislation.

Supervising all forms of gaming, land-based and online, including OPAP, casinos and other providers.

Making use of technological tools and data for more effective supervision and control.
